Annotation

The article is devoted to the comparison of theoretical and practical aspects of methods for assessing the level of competitiveness by the example of the regions of Tajikistan. Existing methods for assessing the level of competitiveness of regions are investigated, and their advantages and disadvantages are identified. An analysis of the author’s methods for assessing the level of competitiveness of regions is carried out. For the first time for the objectivity of the study and comparison of methodologies, the assessment of the level of competitiveness of the regions is carried out by three author’s methods, with a similar algorithm of assessment and identification of coefficients for each indicator, which is determined in comparison with the benchmark region. The difference in these methodologies lies in the composition of indicators, the methods used to calculate private and integral indicators, as well as the gradation of interpretation of the results obtained. It has been revealed that different methods of assessment show different results, in which the places in the rating of the regions of the Republic of Tajikistan are different. Sogd Region, for example, ranks from the region characterized as “potential areas for development,” further, “with an average level of competitiveness,” to “last place among other regions. It is concluded that for the objectivity of the study when selecting a particular methodology of assessment, the researcher should primarily focus on the goals and objectives, rather than on the simplicity, clarity and accessibility of the data for calculation.
