The essence of the concept of \u201csustainable development\u201d is investigated and the relationship with the concept of \u201ccompetitiveness of the region\u201d is revealed. Also highlighted their general characteristics. A conceptual scheme for the relationship of sustainable development and competitiveness of the region is proposed. It was revealed that to increase the competitiveness of the regions of the Republic of Tajikistan and ensure their sustainable development, it is necessary to increase the competitiveness of target groups of resource consumers, such as the population, enterprises, investors and tourists.
