Annotation
The article shows the process of formation and the current state of the energy sector in Tajikistan, identifies the main priorities that ensure its long-term development, the peculiarities of the use of renewable energy sources. It is noted that sometimes integrated use of water-energy resources, having transboundary nature and simultaneously used for energy and irrigation purposes, in the absence of centralized management can lead to interstate conflict between their hydropower and irrigation systems. This case is analyzed for conditions of power systems of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The great importance of small hydropower for the economy of Tajikistan is shown and the main reasons for the low efficiency of its use in Tajikistan are shown. These include: 1) point construction of small SHPP without necessary schematic studies; 2) lack of hydrological justification in hydropower projects, which has resulted in many of them being built on rivers, the water content of which in winter is much lower than estimated in the project; 3) projects of all constructed SHPP do not consider optimization of their location, when costs of power lines from power plants to consumers are comparable to costs of SHPP. Analysis of the prospects of development of the energy sector of Tajikistan as the basis of its economy. The importance of integrated energy-irrigation use of water and energy resources of transboundary rivers in the region is noted.
